Cosmic Psychos are an Australian punk rock band formed 1982 in Melbourne by original members Bill Walsh (drums, vocals), Peter Jones (guitar, vocals), Steve Morrow (vocals) and Neal Turton-Lane (bass). In 1984 Ross Knight (bass, vocals) replaced Morrow and Turton-Lane and establishing the power trio format which they remained. Robert John "Rocket" Watts (guitar, vocals) replace Peter Jones in 1990 and remained with the band until his death in 2006, at which point John McKeering aka Mad Macka (guitar, vocals) came on board. Musically, their droning, fuzzed-out bass and wah-wah guitar sound predated the Seattle grunge movement and their influence was recognised by renowned artists such as Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder. To-date the band has released ten studio albums, plus several live albums, EPs and Singles. Standout albums include Go The Hack, Self Totalled, Glorius Barsteds and Slave to the Crave: Live at The Palace Melbourne, from 1990. Known for their hard drinking behaviour and vulgar lyrics, the Cosmic Psychos are one of the defining bands of the so called 'yob rock' genre, however musically they have a bit more going on than most bands of that ilk.
