Courtney Melba Barnett is an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician born 1987 in Sydney. Known for her witty, rambling lyrics and deadpan singing style, Barnett attracted attention with the release of her debut EP, I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris. A second EP How to Carve a Carrot Into a Rose also attracted much critical praise. The EPs were bundled and issued as The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas in 2013. She has issued two albums: Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit and Tell me how you Really Feel, both of which received widespread critical acclaim. In addition to her solo work, Barnett has collaborated with Kurt Vile and Dan Luscombe, from The Drones. In 2015, Barnett was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Artist category and was nominated for Best International Female in the 2016 Brit Awards. The 2015 EP Live at Electric Lady Studios EP is also an excellent release.
